Edward P. Flood

Partner

Ed has been practicing admiralty and maritime law since 1986. Before founding the firm with Kirk, Ed worked as an associate with a prominent maritime firm in New Orleans and later as a partner with a well-known New York maritime firm.

The majority of Ed’s clients are bluewater and brownwater vessel owners, P & I Clubs, and domestic underwriters and he has extensive experience in defending and prosecuting casualty claims, defending cargo claims, and defending personal injury and wrongful death claims.

Ed’s casualty experience - both bluewater and brownwater - includes a number of groundings, container stow collapses, collisions, allisions and capsizings.

Ed has also litigated a number of personal injury suits to conclusion, some resulting in a complete defense verdict.

A smaller, but growing, part of Ed’s practice is his representation of small private pleasure craft owners, marine terminal operators and/or wharfingers, and small and mid-size dockbuilders and/or maritime related construction companies.

While most of his practice is devoted to litigation or arbitration, Ed also provides legal advice and counsel to a number of vessel owners/managers (both large and small) and values the longstanding relationships he has developed with these companies.

Ed began his law career as a Judge Advocate in the United States Navy. During his four years in the Navy, he represented the United States in a significant number of courts-martial and numerous administrative proceedings. After serving for a number of years in the Naval Reserve, he resigned his commission as a Lieutenant Commander.

Ed is married to his wife Rebecca and they have two boys, John Thomas and Henry, and a daughter, Grace.
